Enjoyed an excellent bushwhack to a small (2,342 ft.) peak sometimes called “Rocky Branch Dome”, located about one mile off the Rocky Branch Trail in the vicinity of Mt. Resolution. Woods were generally open until the last tenth of a mile, where I encountered thick spruce and many boulders. The summit is surrounded by cliffs, but I found an easy way up on the SW side -- there are likely other possible routes as well. The summit is very open and has a unique view of Mt. Washington and the Presidential Range-Dry River Wilderness. While returning to the trailhead, I noted many ripe blackberries along the Rocky Branch Trail, especially near the damaged bridge. |
