No cars when we arrived at 8, two others there in the afternoon. Plenty of room! |

That's why we were here! Trail is/was grown-in. It is now cleared half way to the Castle Trail from Caps Ridge Trail. |

Not many but the ones that were buzzing bit and flew in our ears and eyes. If we were hiking I don't think we would have noticed them but doing trail work they found us. |

RMC work day for us. We carried our tools up Caps Ridge Trail and found the beginning of The Link completely brushy with prickers so that the path appeared abandoned. We clipped, lopped and sawed our way down the trail. We felt more often that we were trail building other than brushing and trimming an existing path. It was hot and muggy but not as hot as it was down below but still a sufferfest of sorts. We tricked a couple into hiking this trail, they saw the recent work at the start and hoped it was good all the way to the Castle Trail, only people we saw all day. Two more than we thought we might ha ha. Cutting trees we'd find massive piles of moose poop and even discovered yellow blazes on big trees so they are now visible. We almost made it to the big stream crossing but we hit our turn around time so we did. So the first 3/4s of a mile is super nice but the next you're going to meet some walls of spruce. I hope we get back there sooner than later. |
