Major redirection of the Gale River trail around the river crossings due to severe damage to the trail by Irene. 2 groups of National Forest workers were working on the trail. Very muddy for 1.5 miles due to rain last week. Garfield Ridge trail east of Garfield very wet and slippery |

As above, trail very wet today with running water on the steep descent on Garfield Ridge trail east of the .2 mile final approach to Garfield summit making for treacherous descent toward the camping area. Muddy mess on Gale River trail. Garfield trail was wet but no problem navigating around the muddy areas. |
