Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Lots of space available at the northern branch of the Imp trailhead. There’s no big road sign for it so it’s easy to drive by if there aren’t any cars parked there. There’s room for a half dozen to a dozen cars alongside the road before it would begin go overflow though there’s not exactly a lot either. We were the second and third cars there at 9:30am. Many more when we returned just shy of 3pm. It had overflowed a little.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easily rock hopped. Though water is very low now, I could see the crossing of Imp Brook being difficult when water is higher.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail is blazed in yellow. The blazing is faded and not frequent. Not sure it’ll get a fresh coat anytime soon though as the trail is very eroded and easy to follow. Other than a widow maker or two (my dad thought one of them had been cut partway, but then left seeming to leave a precarious situation). Blowdown work elsewhere was visible so it clearly receives regular maintenance. The ladder along the trail needs repaired. It’s not that steep so you can easily climb up without it (maybe they should just remove it?) but it just contributes all the more to the erosion problems.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure. We saw a few.
Bugs
Bugs: None
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found an orange Nalgene bottle left at the trailhead. If it’s yours let me know and I’d be happy to return it.

Comments
Comments: A nice hike with my parents to celebrate their 30th anniversary and go get my mother another 52WAV Peak. The trail was about as dry as I’ve ever seen ‘em. No mud or anything really. Kind of remarkable. The trail is very pleasant with a good footbed and gentle grades as it follows the brook down low, then crosses it, climbs moderately/steeply for a bit before a long, mostly flat section, then it’s pretty much steep the rest of the way (see notes on the “ladder” above) leveling off a little as you reach the summit. Rougher footing during this upper portion of trail with lots of erosion too. Nice views from the ledges where we hung out for 45min. Presidentials were in the clouds but everything else was in the clear. Great temps today and a cool breeze. Mix of sun and cloud but mostly cloud over the notch. Saw lots of folks out including a co-worker who’s also my parents (nearly) neighbor though they didn’t know it!…funny what a small world it is :)
