Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: From Rt 16/Dam Rd in Wilson Mills Maine, I took a left onto Parmachenee Rd and followed it for about 6.5mi nearly to the NH border, then took a left onto Magalloway Rd, soon crossing a gate and the state line. I followed Magalloway Rd for a little over 4mi to a point just before the road crossed the East Branch of the Dead Diamond River. Here, I took a left onto an unnamed gray road on Gaia and followed it south for 1.75mi, then took another unnamed gray rd on Gaia north that headed toward the peak. Rather than continue all the way to the end of the road, I parked at the HOL, pulling my car off to the side of the road. Parmachenee and Magalloway roads should be suitable for all cars with care. Watch out for logging trucks on the former though. The two unnamed roads are grassy center land type of roads. That said, they were in very good shape. Certainly suitable for mid-clearance 2WD vehicles. I’d still be wary of taking a low-clearance car down any road with a slightly raised center line but you could probably swing it especially if you straddled the center and the edge.

Comments
Comments: Day 264, Peak 258. 2nd hike/peak of the day after Camp Seven/SE Diamond Ridge Mountain.

From my car, I went into the woods in an open/logged area but not brushy. I slabbed steeply up to a minor SW ridge of the peak in open woods. Once on the ridge the grades moderated some before becoming steeper again as I approached the summit. Woods thickened up too but not too bad. Register wasn’t too hard to find. Some sign ins suggested there may be a higher bump but it seems pretty settled on at this point so I didn’t bother looking around. I signed in and returned the same way though I came down some of the steeper mini-cliffs I noted on my way up near the summit which made for a little slower going.

Hike was about 0.75mi round trip with just over 400ft of gain, taking me 1hr to complete. 101 more days and 107 more peaks to go…
