Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Some happy dogs up high today, and some unhappy. I think some owners pushed their dog harder than they should to get up to the high elevations.

Comments
Comments: For our fifth Seek the Peak, and sixth summit of Mt. Washington, we decided to hike up the service road next to the Cog. I was a bit concerned at what I had read of this path, but we found it fairly easy going. It's quite steep, elevation gains fast. Some footing is loose. The path gets noticeably more rough above 4000, and moreso above 5000, but never to any point of concern to me. I most appreciated that there is little of the ankle twisting boulders to navigate, unlike most other approaches like Tuckerman Ravine trail. This left me feeling less worn by the summit. The steep sections and loose footing would be less fun for descent, but it is doable, and we saw a few going that way. Views are incredible, and we only saw one other person over most of the ascent. For not being a trail, I enjoyed this way to summit, and would ascend that way again.

The rest of the beautiful day was enjoyable, and standard fare. The summit was very busy. Gulfside to Jewell past Great Gulf has some of the best views anywhere. Jewell to descend feels long, and I find the rocky upper section tedious, but it's a good gradual path for descent, and no slower than the other routes I've taken off the summit.

My wife was most excited to be able to climb up to the Observatory tower again. Happy days. :)
