Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The talus field may be an issue for some dogs. On the way up we crossed paths with a hiker returning who did have to carry his pup across it (looked to be a fairly light dog). Practically every rock will move under paw.

Comments
Comments: The common heard path starts about 50' from the large rock on CNT and is fairly obvious. It follows along a drainage through open woods and climbs steeply. Prior to the ridge there path splits off around a small cliff, we went south (left) of it on the way up and found it to be the better way. Then heads NNW and becoming very steep. While there are a few paths that peal off we stayed on a good line and avoided anything thick below the talus field. Once onto the talus the slope is very steep, The cairns marking the exit of the top of the field is slightly to the right of where you enter roughly 1:00. We could make out where some of the traffic veered more right to avoid the steepest part, we just went straight up to the cairns. The heard path then goes left before heading up steeply again. Here is where it gets thicker and blowdowns begin to obscure the common paths.

The final approach is again very steep with lots of blowdowns, we were able to stay clear of anything really thick for the most part. A clear and obvious heardpath appears again and leads to the summit marked with a sign and canister. Canister opens from the top contains two log books (one being the one Per left in 3/20 the other I would assume being the one he mentioned in the frozen canister), both books have recent entries.

Descending back off the summit we found the path slightly to the east (left) of our ascent which was easier. After that we were on and off our original track a bit but traveling was decent. Overall found this to be pretty straight forward.

A good morning for this hike. My friend needed it for her NEHH and I did for NHHH. Lots of hikers out doing Carrigain, and ran into a two others doing VS.
