Date of Hike: Saturday, July 16, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: we steered clear of the small parking spot and INSTEAD parked directly across the street- knowing that we would be dipping in the river immediately following the hike :-) only car in the lot early am.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: both very easy walkover (small stream)
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: very few blazes (faded yellow, faded blue, and one tree had a faded orange LOL) but the trail is of course very easy to follow this time of year. No new blowdowns; those present (easy walk over / walk under) appear to have been there for some time. The only trouble is the section of looser "gravel" type south of Oak Ridge, making some in our party slip and slide ;-) but, nothing bad
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: the majority of the flies/mosquitoes were just in the first mile or so specifically as the trail got close to the brook. otherwise, the breeze kept them at bay. HOWEVER we MUST mention the large amount of MOTHS- specifically just south of the summit of Oak Ridge. It was seriously like a ALFRED HITCHCOCK moment hahaha (think THE BIRDS)... it really was not that bad, but there AT LEAST 50-100 of them fluttering around. On the way back, on our descent back to the south side of Oak Ridge, they'd moved on... the breeze save us haha. It was so interesting, as we'd not ever encountered that this time of year.
