Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: From Rt 3 in Pittsburgh: Back Lake Rd —> Moose Pond Rd —> Indian Stream Rd —> left onto road that goes past Pearley Terrill Dam —> Bear right on spur road toward peak. Note that the spur rd that heads toward peak continues well beyond where Gaia shows it stopping. Due to logging I believe it takes you within 1/4mi just south of east of the peak just above 2000ft. If you look at where the road stops on Gaia, you’ll see a large open area to the ahead on right. Then, the open area narrows as it heads NE. That’s basically the path of the road. The road continued beyond where I parked but this was the HOL on the road closest to the peak so a good place to stop. Logging seems to be active on the road so I’d recommend doing this on weekends only when they’re less likely to be logging. Back Lake Rd is paved and suitable for any vehicle. Moose Pond could be done by a low clearance car but gets a bit rough toward Indian Stream Rd so if you’re concerned just come in Indian Stream Rd from Rt 3. Indian Stream Rd is in good shape. Can be done by any car with caution around the potholes and divots. Even the road to Pearley Terrill Dam and to the peak was in good shape though it eventually becomes a grassy centerline kind of road so mid-clearance will probably become necessary at some point here. I managed to park on the side of the narrow road.

Comments
Comments: Day 252, Peak 246. 1st hike of the day. I got an early start just past 8am for once and it paid off with a very cool start to my day. Car said it was only 44 degrees though I don’t believe it as I most definitely would've needed gloves if that were true! But no wind and a sunny sky kept me warm :)

From the HOL on the road just above 2000ft, I headed W/NW on a straight line to the peak, reaching it in about 0.2mi. You go through some brush and overgrown stuff on the way but it’s not too unpleasant especially for such a short peak and it’s not consistent. Moderate grades. The highpoint and register wasn’t at the first bump I came to. It’s further back than you think, nearly on the border swath. Not real hard to find though. I signed in and returned the same way.

Less than 1/2mi and about 125ft of gain. Could easily be done in less than 30min if you’re trying. 45min if you’re taking your time. 113 more days and 119 more peaks to go…
