Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is in good shape. My sincere thanks to the trail maintainers.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Several pooches worthy of note today, all good boys or good girl doggies: - A black 'golden doodle'. - A 11 month old Dutch Shepard - Cairn Terrier - Several gold labs - Golden Retriever
Bugs
Bugs: With today's breezes, not much of a problem. I noted 1 black fly that attempted to bite me in the temple.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: One hiking pole basket. Left at base of hiker parking pay kiosk. Owners of one pooch said they lost a dog boot, we looked and nada. Probably 'became one with da mud." i.e. lost forever.

Comments
Comments: Blue bird day on a weekend. A gift and so far this summer, a rarity.
We considered diverging over the Crawford Path to Washington summit after Monroe, but frankly the peacefulness of Mt Monroe vs the busy crowds and relative non-nature appearance and activity on big W's summit put us off. I also weighed having to return over the steep inclines for 1-1/2 miles Ammonoosuc Ravine trail after adding another 3.2 to/from big W's summit. And getting home another 3 hours later. Concluded that it wasn't worth it. A busier day does not necessary mean a better day.

I had also considered diverging to Mt Eisenhower's summit, but neither of our cars were parked at the Edmunds Path trailhead, which meant another 2-1/2 mile slog back to our vehicles.

On the way down Ammonoosuc Ravine trail we ran into a large group of young men all climbing to Washington; they were quite spread out. We also ran into who appearred to be their trip leaders. Wasn't getting a good read on firm organization or hiking group management. IMHO, trip leaders need to be as vigilent as border collies to ensure their herd makes it home safe. Hope they did okay.

All that said, it was a great day on the mountain. The Presidential Range never gets old on a day like today. Couldn't ask for more. Well, okay, I could ask for ice cream on a mountain top, but that would been big W, which, you know... But aside from that, wouldn't change anything.
