Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: There were quite a few cars at the train depot area, but still plenty of places left at 8:30am. On return, there were more vehicles, as well as a train stopped by the depot and a lot of tourists about.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All were easy rock-hops, as water was low after a dry period.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Above the Avalon/A-Z trail junction, there are three good size blowdowns across the trail. The first (going up) was neither an easy duck under nor a step over, and already there is a herd path around it. Within feet of the trunk, there is a second small blowdown, the roots of which are right over the trail and at face height; don't be looking down at the trail there or you may walk right into the root stubs. Further up there is a second trunk across the trail, but this is an easy enough step over; I used the small foldup saw to remove two branches that were over the trail, to help with the stepping over. Finally, the third trunk is a duck-under, but awkward with the pack on; the limbs over the trail had been removed.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: One well-behaved.
Bugs
Bugs: I had bug juice on, but I didn't really see any bugs.

Comments
Comments: Despite the dampness late morning for a couple of hours, there were quite a few other hiking parties, including one large group of young folks headed up and over to Zealand Hut.
