Parking/Access Road Notes: Nice lot on Airport Road. L-shaped, so it's bigger than it looks from the road. Two lovely outhouses.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Excellent! Bog bridges are covered in chicken wire for better traction when wet or damp. Observation platform and benches in great condition. Thanks!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Allowed. Please remember this is a wildlife refuge. Even though it is on a pond, I would bring enough water for your dog.
Bugs
Bugs: A few ticks on the grassy trails. A few skeeters. Massive amounts of butterflies on the rail trail.

Comments
Comments: Let's get the scary part out of the way first. POSSIBLE GIANT HOGWEED ALERT!!! Unless this was the similar looking but smaller cow parsnip. This is that plant that looks like Queen Anne's Lace, but can grow 8-14 feet. There is one right before the observation platform. I thought these had only made their way up as far as NY, but I could be wrong. Not only can the sap cause serious blisters, but if you get it in your eyes you can be blinded! Am sending my photo to UNH Extension for a final verdict.

So, now for the happy trail report. First of all, if you are recovering from a variety of health issues, this is a great area for a nice walk. The rail trail is gravel, great for wheelchairs! The ramp onto the viewing platform would be easy to navigate. The rail trail is part of the Cross New Hampshire Adventure Trail; many cyclists were enjoying it yesterday. All trails we were on had frequent benches, so plenty of areas to rest if you need to. Beautiful views of Cherry Pond and the Cherry Range across it. The other trails mentioned are paths going into the woods along the pond. They are more traditional hiking paths, not wheelchair accessible. All part of the Cohos Trail. For a few moments here and there we walked along a railroad which is live.

This is part of the Silvio O. Conte National Wildlife Refuge, which spans 4 states. Great diversity of flowers! Once again, this a great area for those restricted by or recovering from ill health. Getting over pneumonia, I easily did 5 miles here. Great place!
