Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, June 25, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The Livermore Trailhead was nearly full at 10:30am.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossings on Livermore Trail have bridges strong enough for cars/trucks, also usable by hikers. The crossings on Mt. Tripyramid Trail (Avalanche Brook at both ends of the trail, and various tributaries of Slide Brook) were easy rock hopping.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One blowdown on Mt. Tripyramid Trail just south of Middle Tripyramid.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I'd think that the slides on Mt. Tripyramid Trail would be difficult for dogs to do safely, but Livermore Trail is just a wide dirt road the whole way, hence fine.
Bugs
Bugs: The mosquitos and flies were bad today. Plenty of bugs along Livermore Trail and the North Slide in the morning and early afternoon. Surprisingly they were worst right at the top of the North Slide, as if they were waiting there for tired hikers wanting a break! It was a warm day (high 70s F along Livermore Trail, not much cooler at the summits) with almost no wind - that surely had a lot to do with it.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Back in the parking lot at 6pm, a man told us he had lost his German Pointer (dog) along the trail and asked us to call him if we saw the dog. The dog apparently has a tag with the owner's phone number. We didn't see it.

Comments
Comments: As usual, it was best to go up North Slide and down South Slide. Both were completely dry. In fact, the entire route was almost completely dry, with only a few small easy-to-avoid muddy spots along the south branch of Mt. Tripyramid Trail below the South Slide.

Bring plenty of water for the slides! For those hoping to refill bottles with filtered/treated water en route: After the north branch of the Mt. Tripyramid Trail diverges from Avalanche Brook to head up the North Slide, there were no water sources until well after the bottom of the South Slide on the south branch of Mt. Tripyramid Trail - after crossing many dry streambeds, finally, somewhere near the 2400 ft. contour, one sees Slide Brook coming close on the left side of the trail. One could do a short bushwhack down to Slide Brook then for water, but it is better just to continue down the trail since it very soon crosses some tributaries of Slide Brook.
