 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
From Rt 3 in Pittsburgh, I drove Big Brook Rd which is shown as a gray line (often a logging road) on Gaia. It was in decent shape though. No problems for my mid-clearance FWD SUV. Low clearance may be able to do it too; I don’t remember it terribly well. According to Gaia, there’s a road diverging from it 1.6mi in. I parked at the start of this spur road. |

Day 234, Peak 222. 5th and final peak/hike of the day after Salmon Mtn, Norton Pool Peak, Prospect Mtn (2714ft, near ME border), and Beaman Hill.
I walked up the spur road to for almost 0.1mi to where it bends to the NW. Here, I entered the woods. Woods were open enough and grades were gradual for a short while before quickly steepening to approach the peak. There was a mini-ridge to my left and a mini-ravine to my right that I was heading into. I scrambled steeply up onto the “ridge” and followed it to the summit. Shortly before reaching the highpoint, there was an open area to my left with some flagging. Not hard to find the register.
This was a quick and easy one. All I did today were like that but this one was also pleasant enough without logged areas, overgrown skidder roads, etc. 1mi, 400-450ft of gain, 45min. 131 more days and 143 more peaks to go… |
