 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked at the eastern end of what’s shown on Gaia as Moose Brook Trail. While Gaia shows this road connecting to others to the west, it’s gated just above 2200ft to the SE of the peak.I think it may be a snowmobile trail only. I came here from the end of Trestle Brook Rd. Going between the two was fine with a mid-clearance vehicle and FWD. Now because Moose Brook Trail was gated west of here, to get back to Rt 3 I had to drive out Smith Brook Rd to Magalloway Rd. My car handled this fine and even a low-clearance vehicle might be able to. It would be a slower ride though. |

They were awful around the summit. Thus far I’d gotten through the day okay with forgetting my bug spray but for whatever reason they were really awful at this summit. |

Day 234, Peak 221. 4th hike/peak of the day after Salmon Mtn, Norton Pool Peak, and Prospect Mtn. I’d planned on bagging this peak from a spur road off of East Inlet Rd to the north. The spur rd is labeled on Gaia as “01-30-0” but because I decided to grab Prospect Mtn too and was already over here, I decided to grab it from this just slightly longer approach instead. Besides, no guarantee my car would’ve made it up that spur road to the north anyway.
This hike was a PITA. Not my favorite. I followed a Skidder road full of logs, mud, poor footing, and very overgrown all the way up to the summit area. A month ago this road wouldn’t have been so overgrown I’m sure but it was unpleasant now. I headed into the woods once to try and ascend next to it but it wasn’t much better so I came back onto the road. At least it was straightforward. Decent walking in a spot or two. The road slowly fades as you near the summit. The highpoint and register is toward the SW side of the highest contour on Gaia NOT in the more wooded area toward the center of the contour. Took me awhile to find it as I went it the latter first. I signed in and returned down the skidder road.
The hike was about 1mi with 400ft of gain, taking me a little over an hour to complete. Stats may be a bit off as I forget to start Gaia immediately but I’ve tried to extrapolate ;P 131 more days and 144 more peaks to go… |
