 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked due south of the peak at about 2175ft at the end of Trestle Brook Rd (named as such on Gaia). Though Gaia shows this road continuing to the SE a little further, it appears that part of the road has been demolished due to logging. I was coming from bagging Norton Pool Peak from just west of the HOL on Beaman Hill Trail so I followed Rump Mountain Trail and Trestle Brook Rd to get there. Rump Mtn Trail was in surprisingly okay shape. Better than Beaman Hill Trail. Could probably get away with low clearance, mid clearance to be safe. Trestle Brook Rd was a little rougher in places. Mid-clearance probably necessary. As mentioned in my Norton Pool Peak report, Beaman Hill Rd was a bit sketchier though. |

Prospect Mountain (Pittsburgh - 2714)
Day 234, Peak 220. 3rd peak/hike of the day after Salmon Mtn and Norton Pool Peak.
I followed a logging road with poor footing (though the mud wasn’t anywhere near as bad as it looked)for 0.1mi or so just E of N, then jumped off it into the woods just W of N to ascend to the peak. Open woods to start with easy-moderate grades, then the woods became more overgrown with fern and hobblebush. I got pushed to the west a bit as I ascended the steep south side of the mountain and got close to some thicker looking pokey woods though I mostly stayed in semi-decent stuff though at a steeper grade. No cliffs though. I hit the summit ridge just SW of the highpoint. Not hard to find the register. I signed in and returned in roughly the same tracks except for up high where I came more directly off the summit. It was a bit steeper which was fine but also thicker and pokier pencil woods which was less fun. I got out of them fairly quickly though.
The hike was about 1mi with 500-550ft of gain. It took me about 1hr. 131 more days and 145 more peaks to go… |
