 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked due north of the peak along a road shown on Gaia as Beaman Hill Trail which diverges from East Inlet Rd a few miles in. Parked just west of the HOL in a small grassy clearing. East Inlet Rd to this point should be fine for all cars except perhaps for one sharp divot which low clearance vehicles may struggle with. This Beaman Hill Trail on the other hand is rougher. Mid-clearance at minimum. There’s an exposed, rough culvert just before the grassy clearing I parked in. Part of it had been damaged. I made it over the other side without destroying it any more. Use caution. Note that on my way out, to grab Prospect Mtn, rather than return this way I headed east then south along Rump Mtn Trail (on Gaia) which was actually not as rough as this road. |

Day 234, Peak 219. 2nd hike/peak of the day after Salmon Mtn. Cool and windy at the summit and in the low-mid 60s where I parked at 1:30pm.
From the small grassy clearing I parked in, there appeared to be a bit of a path/road leading into the woods to the left but off my bearing. Another, more overgrown, path headed right more on my bearing. I reluctantly took the latter which was a good choice. Quickly dumped me into good woods which I ascended steeply to the summit on a southerly bearing. Partway up, the open woods turned to a mix of fern and hobblebush, then mostly hobblebush. Thick and tall hobblebush. The rest of the way to the summit was a PITA. The summit area itself was a little better. Not hard to find the jar. I signed in and returned on roughly the same line but wound up a bit east of where I started in the HOL which looked logged or marshy or something so I backtracked a bit to come out exactly where I started.
Quick, easy hike but PITA with the hobblebush. Just under 1mi with about 450ft of gain taking me a little over 1hr. Slow going because of the steep grade, hobblebush, and a long break at the summit. 131 more days and 146 more peaks to go… |
