Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Though Gaia shows Neville Brook Route continuing north, the road stops at the 1600ft contour line. I parked here. Just to be clear, since Gaia shows two roads as “Neville Brook Route” I’m referring to the one further west. My maps app calls the other one Newell Brook Road. In any case, both roads were in very good shape as far as I can remember. I was expecting them, at least Neville Brook Rt to be worse. 2WD will be absolutely fine and I think even low clearance would be okay with just a bit of caution around some divots. Mid-clearance like mine can fly ;)

Bugs
Bugs: I’d heard that this was a tick infested peak. Though I didn’t find any on me, I see what they mean. Very grassy and overgrown, previously logged area. I doused myself in 25% DEET before starting and it seemed to work well. Other bugs seemed minimal.

Comments: Day 229, Peak 214. 1st peak of the evening. Started at 6pm!

From the end of the road I walked I took a SW bearing and headed over the nasty logged stuff into the woods. Though Gaia showed me in an open area, I was able to stick to the woods and avoid young growth. Doing this seemed to take me off my bearing though and I ended up headed almost due west instead. This had me pop out on the N/NE ridge of the peak about 1/4mi from the peak. I think it was around here or shortly before that I hit lots of brushy young growth with wet, muddy footing that was obnoxious to walk through. I followed the ridge, eventually hitting a bit more woods, and found the highpoint with the jar on the ground. The jar was intact but needs new rope. I signed in and headed down.

I took a direct bearing down to see if I could follow a better line down. I did (if anything I headed too far east this time) but decided to contour north when I was nearly down to pop out close to my car. Also, I still hit young growth with wet footing on my way down. I popped back onto the road just south of where I parked. I didn’t go over the logged stuff this way which was nice so I recommend, if parking at the end of the road, to backtrack just a short ways and enter the woods instead.

About 1.5mi with 700ft of gain, taking me 1hr5min. 136 more days and and 151 more peaks to go…
