Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Jefferson, NH
Trails
Trails: Boundary Line Trail, Caps Ridge Trail, Jefferson Loop, Gulfside, Jewell Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Wednesday, June 15, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Ammo Trail lot about 1/3 full upon arrival (8:15 AM). The Mt Clinton Road was in poor condition, although I have seen it worse. The 1.4 mile section of Jefferson Notch Road that I hiked seemed to be in top notch condition.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All bridged except for Clay Brook on Boundary Line Trail. Required careful foot placement and boots getting a little wet.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Most of the trail sign mileage differs from those given in the WMG, which I believe is more accurate. There needs to be more blazing in the vicinity of the caps on Caps Ridge Trail. The few I saw were there back when I first did this trail in 72...LOL. Need more cairns on Jewell above treeline. These notes are not problems in good visibility, but in thick soup, good luck finding your way in some of these spots. In general, all trails were in good shape with some nice stone steps in places.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Only saw 2. I wouldn't think these trails would be good for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: In a word...horrible. Skeeters down low on Boundary Line and Jefferson Notch Road, and black flies and gnats up high. Only trail where they were not swarming was Gulfside, probably due to the little wind that there was.
