Comments
Comments: A very satisfying hike of Vose Spur today. The general popular herd path begins after the large boulder 1.5mi from the beginning of Carrigain Notch Trail. The herd path makes going easy for about 0.3mi, then all bets are off. There's a rough section 0.3-0.5mi into the bushwhack where blowdowns and ledgy boulders caused me to just find the best route through the trees WNW to pick up the herd path in much more open woods. The next 0.3mi were easy to follow to the scree field, which I was so excited to get to and see the views, I shot right up the scree without realizing the trail only briefly crosses it then darts into the woods again at a cairn. The final steep pitches up Vose were moderately difficult to find a good route, but there are enough fragments of various herd paths to help you up. The summit is blowdown central, reminded me of East Sleeper, the canister is available on the north side of the peak.
