Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks North Moat Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: Moat Mountain Trail, Red Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, June 10, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Large parking lot, also provides parking for Diana's Baths. I was first car in at 7:00 AM on Friday. Fifteen other cars at 5:00 PM, mostly for Diana's Baths. Still plenty of room, but I bet it fills up on weekends. $5.00 parking fee per car, unless you have a pass. Outhouse facilities just behind the parking lot.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rock hoppable. Water is low even after two days of rain.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails are in good condition. A couple blowdowns, easy step-overs. On lower part of Moat Mountain Trail, there are several partly fallen trees hanging high over the trail, hopefully stable. There are several confusing spots between North Moat and Red Ridge where additional blazes or cairns would be helpful.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw one dog, looked happy. Some dogs might have trouble with the rock scrambles.
Bugs
Bugs: Some mosquitoes and black flies. I covered up and applied DEET, no problems.

Comments
Comments: It had rained the previous two days. There were some wet, slippery spots on the ledges, but mostly dry. If all the rocks and ledges had been wet, this would be a much more difficult hike. There are several spots that are tricky enough even when dry.
This is a beautiful hike, with many views and open areas. Red Ridge Trail is especially scenic, descending over the open ledges with a panoramic view unfolding in front of you.
