Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My dog did well, one ledge descent on Glen Boulder that required lifting him down. Lots of water points today. No extra water needed. Three other dogs on trail. All off leash, all totally fine animals. The humans with them were pretty nice too…
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies in abundance on Glen Boulder. Biting and flying into the eyes and ears.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Shirt hanging on Davis Path/Isolation (East) junction sign.

Comments
Comments: Glen Boulder: blazed in yellow to tree line. Then trail is marked by carins. Rough, steep trail. I have a fear of heights and struggled with the descent as one is gifted with open views of the steep trail that awaits negotiation. It was quite dizzying for me. But I made it. The “fairly difficult ledge scramble” described in the Guide was an interesting feature. This ledge is just past the tree line. I was able to figure out a way to slither my 5 foot 5 inch self up this ledge with no handholds, worn rock, and strangely angled rocks. My kid apparently has Spider Man hands and went right up without issue. The dog had to be lifted up. I am not a fan of these types of trail. But I wanted to see this trail for is reputed beauty. So I went, I saw, I won’t be back- even if the trail IS beautiful and the views stupendous. Spring in upper elevations running strong, super cold and delicious! The short spur to the spring is signed.

Davis Path: not blazed; large, highly visible carins mark the trail above tree line from the junction with Glen Boulder down to tree line as heading towards Isolation. Footpath more narrow but completely discernible. Several water points running today. Many of which offer deep enough water to filter a bottle from. The section of trail from the junction with Isolation Trail (East) to the Isolation summit spur has a lot of mud. Some are vats that will suck you (or your hiking shoe) into the molten core of the Montalban Range. Fantastic to have met the infamous Postal Patty!! As she aptly described the mud: “Watch out. It’s mud soup through there.” Noted. Lots of erosion from people avoiding the mud.

I have no idea how people do Glen Boulder in winter. But, that’s awesome. I won’t be one of the ranks. Ran into two hiking partners whom I hope the see again. One was 61 and gave some good info on trials around Whiteface; the other, a 68 year old, was plowing his way out to Iso summit as part of their traverse. Get it, boys, go get it.
