Date of Hike: Sunday, June 5, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at the Castle in the Clouds complex, which has bountiful parking.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All water crossings were bridged
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails were all in good shape. The northernmost leg of the Shannon brook trail is officially "closed for maintenance". I ended up hiking this stretch anyways, and it appeared to be badly neglected. I would not recommend doing this and would advise to take the short detour to Turtleback Mountain Trail, although a well-seasoned hiker wouldn't have too much issue navigating this closed leg.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a couple enjoying the day
Bugs
Bugs: There was a breeze, but still plenty of mosquitoes. Also found a tick, probably from walking through tall grass on the closed-off section described above. Always check yourself after walking through that stuff.

Comments
Comments: Semi loop starting from Castle in the Clouds down the brook walk, then worked up to Bald Knob. The brook walk might be one of the state's best kept secrets in my opinion-really beautiful waterfalls, and the lowest (Falls of Song) is one of the most impressive I've seen in NH. Pairing this with a climb to Bald Knob made for a rewarding hike, especially considering that the elevation gain isn't that bad. Wide open view of the lake at the ledge.
