Comments
Comments: After turning around in Feb on Daniel Doan trail, we were eager to revisit Smarts on a much more amiable day. Changing our route, heading up Lambert Ridge Trail, was a great decision. It’s a beautiful trail and a few nice look outs along the way. If the the ledges weren’t so slick we would’ve headed down this way. Trails were wet in some variation for most of the hike. Even some of the dryer looking ledges felt slick. Smarts is a wooded summit, but the tower, cabin, privy and view from the tent site make it interesting. Heading out Smarts Ranger Trail, the trail is quite rugged and wet. Lots of running water over moss covered rocks but, unlike the Lambert trail, wet rocks are easier the bypass and/or there’s more tree hugging opportunities. Though Ranger trail doesn’t have any views, it does have beautiful brook along the last 1.5 miles. All in all, a great day.
