 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I took the one free spot in the Champney Falls lot at 3:30 PM on Memorial day. A dozen cars were parked roadside. No other cars around upon return at 8:30 PM. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |

 | Recommended Equipment: |

|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Easily rock-hoppable. The 2017 White Mountain Guide speaks of two bridges on Bolles North of Beeline. I didn't see them. They may have been removed and/or bypassed by a reroute. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
No recent or significant blowdowns, so crews have done some fine work. The Twin Brook portion of Bolles appears to be washed out in several places. |

Yes, it's the season. |

 | Lost and Found: |
Only one tissue seen and packed out. |

Chocorua loop from Champney Falls lot. Despite a full lot, did not see another hiker on trail. This was expected on lightly traveled Bolles and Beeline, but was a surprise on Brook, Liberty, Piper, and Champney Falls.
Bolles trail crosses Twin Brook almost a dozen times in one mile. However, even where there aren't planned crossings there are washouts so you're rock-hopping in the brook anyway. Fortunately, water level was low so it was very manageable. Hiking that portion of Bolles with high water levels would be masochistic. The Paugus brook section of Bolles was in better shape. There was trail work in that area last year.
By WMNF standards, there's a low risk of ticks or poison ivy on Champney Falls or Piper trails. The opposite is true on Bolles due to encroaching vegetation.
The most strenuous part of this loop was the ascent of Brook and Liberty. The rock being dry helped. The finish down Champney Falls trails was uneventful. Wet and muddy spots were avoidable. |
