Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of parking at the AMC Cardigan Lodge late afternoon. Note that for the past week or two, "No Parking on Side of Road" signs have been on Shem Valley Road just east (away from the lodge) of the hiker parking area, near the Lower Manning Trail trailhead. Yesterday, a handful of cars had parked adjacent to these signs.

Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Mosquitoes were plentiful on the Back 80 Trail near the wet, muddy sections. After that, not too bad. Black flies were not an issue generally, except when one stopped moving, at which point they were pretty nasty and bite-y.

Comments
Comments: The view from the top of the Hanging Rock spur trail is lovely.

Beaver ponds on the Back 80 Trail continue to be fuller and larger than they've been in years. Clearly they're being maintained!

We saw no one all afternoon/evening except a few folks near the lodge.

Trail conditions:
Manning Trail: new drainage culvert was put in near the lodge -- the trench was in last week, and the culvert has been installed a day or so ago;
Back 80 Trail east of the old cellar hole is muddy and wet, with slippery rocks -- standard for this time of year;
Back 80 Trail west of the old hole is brushy in a number of areas, with a handful of small blowdowns that we de-limbed. New relo with drainage at intersection of 93Z ski trail is still pretty soft and muddy;
Elwell Trail -- in good shape, including recent relocations;
Mowglis Trail -- some brushy sections close to intersection with Elwell Trail
Hanging Rock spur trail -- a bit brushy down low, mainly hobblebush.
