Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No issues. We crossed the bigger one with no problems at all. Water came up over the toes of our boots in a few places, but no issues with gore-tex boots. We probably could have tried harder to find rocks that weren’t submerged to walk across.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I recall a handful of blowdowns. A few step over blowdowns on the first 1.7 miles to the junction. Just before the wooden bridge crossing the stream, there are 2 very recent blowdowns - one is easy to move the branches around to walk under and the other has a herd path forming around it. There’s another one down on the trail just below the summit that is partially blocking the trail. Unfortunately, we didn’t have our saw with us to help out.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: So many good pups out today having a great time!
Bugs
Bugs: You’re going to want bug spray - and it may or may not help. In the morning, the mosquitos were horrible at the car getting laced up. Once we got moving on the trail they weren’t too bad, but we did opt for long sleeves within a few miles. With the breeze at the summit, no bugs present. On the descent, we didn’t really notice anything too bad until we got near the river again - and then they were FIERCE!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found a pair of black glasses (maybe readers?) up on the ridge. Also found a basket for a pole. Left them both at the trailhead kiosk.

Comments
Comments: Other than the bugs (mosquitos) and blowdowns, there isn’t much to note here. There’s mud on the trail in the usual places, but it isn’t terrible - just walk right through it or step on the rocks on the trail. No snow or ice present anywhere we could see, so leave the spikes at home or in the car for this one.

Tons of folks out on the trail enjoying the gorgeous weather today!
