Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, May 26, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: No problem at Lincoln Woods, just a handful of nuts err hikers Thur morning. Do note that they've started blocking off parts of the lot with cones. Not sure if this is related to the upcoming trail repair work on LWT, or just summer crowd management. Ranger said they've been filling up earlier this year (weekends) than has been typical.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings and drainages were easily navigated/hopped. A few steps on submerged (2-3") rocks for the 2nd to last and last crossings, but my footwear choice made this a non issue. **Note: with the forecast, this info expires Friday 5/27 at midnight.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Decent overall. Owls Head path does get messy and a little bit more difficult to follow on the ridgeline, with blow downs and winter debris of branches and tree litter. Otherwise no new blowdowns noted. Also found the Bucket again, which seems to be moving around as of late.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Got pretty buggy around Black Pond and whacks.. got bitten and then relented and put on repellent for the first time in 2022.

Comments
Comments: Based on the USGS water gauges I made a trip out/back to Owlie via the standard route. Ascended the slide (almost totally dry) and descended Brutus. As good as it gets, no snow to be seen anywhere and trail was overall very dry except for mud in the usual flattish spots along LBT. Water levels at the crossings seemed like July conditions (I basically tap danced directly across the main ones), though its been a good stretch of dry weather, which changes tomorrow. Nice chatting with the volunteer USFS ranger both before and after my hike!
