Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Most of the water crossings were too high to cross dry unless folks wanted to use sketchy trees. There is a 300 foot long stretch of trail north of Lincoln Brook Trail junction flooded out by past beaver activity. There is no option to go around so just stay in the trail and wade or play in the mud off to the sides, it may dry out eventually.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I joined the maintainer of FBT to do a spring walkthrough. Lots of blowdowns remove. There still are stepovers but all the PITA climb over and crawl unders are gone. Lincoln Woods trail has a large blowdown across it up near the bridge.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Several well behaved dogs encountered
Bugs
Bugs: Black Flies were around but not agressive. Mosquitoes were out in force in the afternoon

Comments: Franconia Brook Trail - south of 13 Falls

Met a mother and 6 year old daughter team out for a Bondcliff out and back. Looks like another 6 year old 4K list hiker is soon to finish.

We didnt go to 13 falls, stopped short of the Twin Brook crossing as we needed to head out. Looks like the volume of hikers we met headed to 13 falls would exceed the capacity of the site.
