Comments
Comments: Nice to travel snow free trails. Started at Stanton Mtn trailhead off Covered Bridge Road. South to north travel is ideal, as terrain is rolling and rugged in spots - would not want to descend some of those after the climb to Langdon. Views this route are spectacular, and often changing in direction as you traverse. We ooh’d and ahh’d our way across the majority of the Montelban Ridge before the clouds could drop low and get heavy with rain. Highly recommend this trip regardless of anyone’s list goals. White Ledge, Mt Pickering and the Crippies were so much fun, and a good challenge. We found the high point for Langdon pretty simply, making our way to the high point on trail before whacking to it. The guidebook makes it straight forward. After signing the registry and placing the plastic bag GENTLY back into the jar as not to rip it we continued onto the Langdon shelter for lunch. While it’s leaning just a tad to one side, we were grateful the forest service didn’t have their way with removing it. The descent from the shelter is a bit rolling, but otherwise joins an old nice wide skid road past the Parker Mtn junction. We stopped off at Cave Mt just before getting to the car for a nice steep .3 mile ascent to see the caves and the view ledge mentions in the guide book. At this point the rain picked up so our view was not as spectacular as it was earlier, but still nice. Fun day beating the rain as best we could!
