Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossing of Whiteface River on Flat Mountain Pond Trail had some hair on it. Water was somewhat high from snowmelt and I don't remember it being this difficult the last time I came through. There was a spot where we could rock hop with care however and we stayed dry shod.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blowdowns that have received some attention and were not too difficult. The trailbed of parts of the Kate Sleeper Trail was more like a brook but I am sure that is temporary.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: The mosquitoes at the trailhead were horrendous. I have rarely seen them so bad. They remained pretty intense about up to the Whiteface River crossing. After that they weren't really an issue.

Comments
Comments: Some WV redlining. We didn't see another soul all day. Only LW summited the true summit of Whiteface (he wanted to get a May ascent for his grid). Camo and I took a nap at the south summit ledges while we waited for LW to return. Only snow on the trail was a little rotten monorail on the Rollins trail, and a bit more on the KS Trail. We didn't bother donning microspikes. The weather was warm and muggy until we broke through the clouds, above which it was dry and sunny and we could enjoy a nice undercast. A thunderstorm moved in during our descent and was at its worst at the point we were negotiating the hairy river crossing. All good though. Great trip, thank you Camo and LW. 4 or 5 more daytrips and we should get WV redlined.
