Comments
Comments: Didn’t tempt fate ascending the Ammo. Just donned my mini crampons and chugged up the trail.
Removed them once at the hut. Ascended Monroe using Hillsounds to negotiate the snow/icy area.
Kept them on until I was back at the hut. Removed the spikes. Headed up the Crawford path. Crossing the tiny snowfield I put them back on. Took them off and put them back on several times.
I wasn’t in a hurry to summit Washington. Almost got knocked over by the wind on Monroe and was hoping for the wind to ease.
Finally hauled myself up the summit cone and was greeted by almost NO wind even though it had been blowing all the way up.
Also greeted by Cog riders. Hope they realize how lucky they were with the weather. Almost NO wind, mild temps, and great views.
I managed to descend to the Jewel trail junction without traction except for a very short section.
Winds were howling up out of the Great Gulf.
Once in the woods on the Jewel trail spikes went back on until about 3,800 feet elevation.
Final crossing on the Jewel was amazingly low.
