Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Blowdowns at 0.3 and 1.3 miles. 0.3 is a thin branchy stepover- about 5” is the largest diameter. The one at 1.3 miles is very limby/branchy and people are eroding a trail around it. This one has a gazillion 1-2” limbs and the trunk is 9” diameter or so. Both these are laying right across the trail, not leaners. There is also a high-ish walk under maybe within 1/2 mile of the hut. It’s been there quite awhile. That one is resting on other trees.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My misfit and two well-behaved others on the ascent. Mine had no issues on the slippery parts due to her 4wd paws and light weight.
Bugs
Bugs: They are out!! Within the first 2+ miles they are starting to roost under the bill of caps and bite foreheads,,, and fly into eyeballs! Time to take the bug net along. Please winter, come back!!!

Comments
Comments: Traction needed from about 3400 feet to just before the (closed) hut due to white ice and slippery snow over ice. That big ice flow is still there at about 2.4 miles but has a soft surface doable with sharp spikes. There’s some slippery snow for maybe 1/10th mile on Osgood just after the hut, otherwise bare ground all the way to Madison summit. Gulfside has slippery snow, with some post holes between the hut and the first Airline sign. On Gulfside between Airline and Thunderstorm Junction there are some minor post-hole-able snowfield patches but it is mostly bare. The last 0.3 of Lowe’s to the Adams summit is bare. Airline down to Upper Bruin is 99% bare, just a couple of snowy patches. Upper Bruin is all slippery soft snow, post holes, and white ice (no bare ground).
