Comments
Comments: Was waiting for Tripoli road to open, lack of patience won out. 37 degrees at trailhead. trail conditions better than expected. put on trail crampons at 0.5 miles up Mount Osceola trail, really couldn't avoid snow and ice at that point. definitely into snow and ice from there on all the way to Osceola with short areas of bare ground. fortunately with warmer temps the ice was softer. Snow still firm on way up, softened up a bit on return. Soft snow and bare ground seemed to show up in a lot of places that are typically difficult in full winter. Slide area below the chute was bare rock and snow with hardly a trace of ice. The chute below the view east of East Osceola had enough grip in the ice and good spots to get traction on some bare ground. Carried trail crampon pros, considered putting them at top of chute on way out, but could have been more a hinderance than help. Saw 7 people and the 2 dogs. Z-bonds remain for May.
