Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Table Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: Attitash Trail, bushwhack, herd path
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, May 8, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Small parking area. Only room for a few cars before it begins to overflow which it did on Friday to my surprise. More popular than I would’ve guessed. That said, we arrived at 9am and were the first ones there. The big rock that used to pop up in the parking lot is no longer (or was it a rut..?)
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easily rock hopable
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Attitash Trail is occasionally blazed in yellow. Not hard to follow. Make sure you turn off the road and onto the footpath a ways in. I think there a couple stepover blowdowns and one duck under. Nothing too significant. Herd path is in fine shape but not marked.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Some dogs may struggle on the scrambles but most regular hiking dogs will probably be okay. Might want to watch them hear some ledges. 3 seen having a good time.
Bugs
Bugs: Some are out and they were just beginning to get annoying…
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments: Day 187, Peak 179. 1st hike of the day. Nice morning hike with mom and dad on a beautiful day :)

Nice to revisit Attitash Trail. It’s been a few years. It passes some nice cascades down low. Gradual to moderate grades up to the col then generally steep with some minor/moderate scrambles up the ridge to the summit. Some wet/muddy pits, often covered by leaves but the trail is dry by and large. The climb up the SW ridge, in addition to being steep and scrambly at times also has some loose and it’s generally rough footing. Nice views from ledges though. Just before the actual herd path to the summit we thought we saw the herd path to the summit and took it. It soon turned into a thick bushwhack. At least it wasn’t too long. Of course at the summit we ran into the actual herd path which we took back down to the trail. Not sure we ever saw this NW viewpoint that evidently exists somewhere? Not spur trail off the herd path to the summit that I saw other than a faint that that leads N from the summit but is blocked off and doesn’t lead to a view. It’s is faint and fizzles out too. We did get a very obstructed view NW at the start of what we thought was the herd path to the summit but no view of the Presidentials; mainly toward Carrigain. Enjoyed chatting with Heather on the way down :)

178 more days and 186 more days to go…
