Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: NO PANTS NATION! East Branch at Lincoln was running at 566cfs at time of crossing. The crossing of Franconia Brook, which is incredibly wide, turned back four people today. I took my pants off, tied my boots around my neck, donned my crocs and forded like a crazy person. The same can be said for Lincoln Brook. The water was invigorating and numbed your feet in about five seconds.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: (Trail Maintainer of Lincoln Brook). Today was a run through for me of the seldom visited 0.9 section from FB to LB. See water crossing notes on why. I did cleanup on all trails listed. A total of 15 trees came out, two dozen water bars, and two bootleg campsites brushed in / fire rings dismabtled. Took out four trees on Lincoln Woods. Left a few as they are multiple beech cuts and the USFS has 'mechanical advantages' that my 10" cannot overcome. Waterbar work and muliple trees taken out along FBT. There is a good size one towards the beaver pond in the tunnel. I cleaned up LBT pretty well aside from the reroute where it follows the ridgeline to avoid the beaver ponds. There is a cluster that came down on the trail, a triple striped maple 12" / 12" / 8" with the trunk much larger diameter. The trail is passable now by cleaning up the other branches, but I couldnt get it on my own. Axe worthy. Black Pond Trail (proper) is in great shape with no issues. Did leave some stuff on FBT, one needed a second person due to how it fell and tension load on another tree (as it it would snap back at me if I took the other out)

Comments
Comments: A FINE day in the forest was had. Trail maintenance day before the bugs and tourists come out. See notes above. Lovely lunch and beer at Black Pond, which I had all to myself. Found some new skid roads I explored towards the ridgecrest on the west side of Lincoln Woods, as well as the decaying concrete dam on the outflow of Ice Pond. Trillium errectus (maroon) are popping, and there are tons and tons of trout lillies and wild oats blooms waking up. The trail should be washed in color soon, especially with the temps coming next week
