Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Small lot on the side of Hogan Road across the street from the Centennial trailhead. Road is reasonable condition. All vehicles should be able to access the lot.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: no significant water crossings
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Cut up about 8 to 10 trees on the Centennial and Mahoosuc trails. I cut a couple of downed trees to facilitate passage but an additional cut with a larger saw will totally clear out the trees from the trail. There seemed to be fewer white blazes on the Mahoosuc Trail north of the junction with the Centennial Trail although I had no problems finding the trail. Saw some flagging by the trail that may indicate future trail work.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: A few flying insects when out of the breeze and I was not in motion.

Comments
Comments: Most of the trail was dry. No need for traction or gaiters. Only very small amounts of snow or ice mainly nestled between rocks at the highest elevation. Some of the wet sections of ledges were slightly slippery for vibram rubber soles. There were only a few places in the hardwood forest where there was a concentration of leaves on the trail that may be potentially slippery. Only minor muddy spots that frequently had rocks or roots to help keep dry although there is no way to avoid muddy footwear.
Make sure to continue 0.3 miles south of Mt Hayes on the Mahoosuc Trail to arrive at the outlook ledge that is to the left of the trail on descent. The view runs from Shelburne Moriah to Mt Crescent. There is an excellent view up Pinkham Notch including Mt Washington, Adams, and Madison. Some interesting red and green mosses and reindeer lichen by the ledges.
Saw a couple of Trout Lily near the beginning of the Centennial Trail.
Met only two other hikers today. An AT hiker from Springfield, Mo and a hiker from Springfield, Ma who skied Tuckerman Ravine earlier in the day.
Good to have no snow or ice on a hike.
