Comments
Comments: Walked over Mt. Wolf, but KRT does not lead you to the summit.
Made quick work of Reel Brook which then turned into 3 miles of postholing shallowly and deeply with occasional breaks of dry trail (literally a few feet), ice, and mud. Snow over 3 feet in places and undermined as well in some areas, so wear your Darn Tough socks and enjoy! No finger wagging necessary as no type of traction would have made a difference. Some shallow snow on Gordon Pond until about 2300ft which gave way to Speedgoat sucking mud. One water crossing took me in over 2 feet. Lovely to see patches of blooming trout lilies (which are edible, but forage one leaf from the plants with two, only) and first time I've seen ducks on a trail. Fairly easy to navigate out of Gordon Pond -- read the WMG and pay attention the last .6 or so for the occasional blaze and just below eye level arrow. Road walk back to Crooked Pike. In spite of losing copious amounts of time (at least 1hr 15) on KRT, we still made it out in just over 5 hours. She and I also tagged all applicable spurs as any good White Mountains Guide hiker knows to do.
