Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There's no blowdowns, the trail is mostly wide and clear and painted. But from Pepper's low perspective the trail above the nice lower section and below the fun exposed peak must have seemed like a mix of glacial U shaped valleys & erratics, bouldery brooks, and chains of beaver ponds. What a mess. Winter snows can't come soon enough for this trail. It's still an easy and fast hike up, but a little slower going down when wet. Waterbars are generally non-existent, buried, or hanging. The most heavily eroded sections at least have a nice footbed but in places they are so deep the sides may cave in. It's a tough slope and soils to have a trail and the weather hasn't been good, even the ski trail had water running down it, but the state needs to do more than post the ski trails.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Plenty of water and shade today for Pepper. We saw a husky type late. At the peak we turned to the west and somberly saluted a wonderful hiking dog who will be missed. There should be a special place where all hiking dogs wait for and then join their companions; where the trails are endless and they are forever young.

Comments
Comments: Modern synthetics make hiking in drizzle and light rain pretty comfortable at least for a short, windless and relatively mild hike. The views from the outlook were an interesting mix of clouds, mountains and trees. I thought we were lucky to sneak a hike in before the heavier rain, and we didn't see anyone until a ways into our descent, but then met several groups, with some still coming up as we hit the parking area.
