Nice walk up FR 511 to the trail crossing. Then the usual rocks, roots and ledges all the way to just below the summit of Mt. Potash. Entered the woods about 100 yards up the edge toward the summit of Potash. Ledges then thicker and thicker spruce as we descended to the ridge between the two peaks. The ridge was spruce covered but most trees were young and easily bended through. Found two Moose jaws along the way. Once we started ascending South Potash, the spruce got thicker and stiffer, those 'poke you and don't budge" types much of the way to the top. Occasional openings but pretty whippy most of the way. Managed to go straight to the jar! Signed in and headed back, dropping down a little lower which was a lot more open but meant we had to do some slabbing around the peak to get back to the trail, coming out at the ledges which were easily climbed to the trail. |
