Comments
Comments: Ice and packed snow start at Gibbs Falls on the Crawford Path. I found light traction helpful all the way out to Eisenhower. I started early enough in the day (8:00 am), that I could hike out to Eisenhower without snowshoes (got there at 11:00 am). People had postholed out to the peak but there was enough of a boot pack that I used that. The trail started to soften up on the way back and was well on the way to wet slush and puddles by 11:45 am. Bagged Pierce and headed down the Webster Cliff Trail towards Jackson. Trail conditions deteriorated fast - as in slush. The descent to Mizpah Hut (which is now open incidentally) was treacherous slush. I could have slid down on my butt, I guess, but I didn't want a wet butt. I thought about continuing the 1.7 miles to Jackson, but I'd had enough and punted on a third peak. I'd rather just climb it from Crawford Notch in a few weeks. Mizpah cutoff is broken out, but slushy too. Out via Crawford path with spikes. Snowshoes and crampons came along for the ride. I am really sick of winter conditions!
