Barebooted to 2500'. Crampons there above to the summit. Bypass of the bypass is rather long and meandering due to starting well above the bypass. Saw most people in spikes and 1 fellow gridder in full crampons. They were definitely the best choice as the frontpoints made some of those tricky downhills more negotiable. Still required significant usage of trees for hand and footholds on the more sketchy sections between 3000-3500'. The section from where the trail intersects the top of the slide to the top of the gully at the viewpoint heading up East Osceola is very tedious. Anywhere that is not dead flat above 2500' would be a terrible place to fall and this trail is pretty much no fall territory even though its only class 2-3 fall consequences. East to Main peak has some tall, crusty sloping monorail |
