Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks North Twin Mountain, South Twin Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: North Twin Trail, North Twin Spur
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, September 26, 2011
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Haystack Road is a dirt road in good shape, with just a few rocks sticking up. The road doesn't have a road sign, just a hiker icon sign, just south of the Last Chance Cabins in Twin Mountain. Fee lot.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: I chose to skip the first two crossings of the Little River and wade across the third in Crocs on the way up. On descent, I waded all three. Other hikers were rock hopping or shimmying across the third one on fallen trees. The herd path(s) is easy to follow and moderately tame. There are a number of small stream crossings between the river and Mile 3.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Most of the trail was either dry or had some mud that was o.k. The undermined trail sections are small, well-marked with fluorescent tape, and easy to bypass.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: There's not much doggie water above the stream crossings, but have fun slurping out of the occasional puddles.

Comments
Comments: The skies were almost entirely clear, allowing for great views of everything! It was great fall day to bag a pair of peaks, and see some awesome territory that is new to me. I also did this hike to honor all the twins in my family, my sisters Lisa and Kate, my nieces Julia and Kristina, and my cousins Will and Ben, Alex and Avery, and the brand new ones born Friday on the first day of Autumn, Cameron and Lydia.
