What a nice day out. I was the only one in the lot. I took a photo of the guidebook pages and headed off down the road. Once I got to the .6 turn on the logging road, I had looked at my phone to read the next part and noticed too late that I think I walked by the entrance into the woods. What confused me was that there was no gate like the description had said. Therefore I continued on until I hit the field. I looked to my left to see the trail came back in right there. Back on track. After the field which is a little wet I walked into the woods. The description states to be on the old forest or logging road, which is now blocked by sticks so I stayed on the yellow blazed I assume newer trail to the right. It crossed the road later on and I continued on. The Shingles pond view was great and lots of beaver activity in the area. Once I crossed the west branch at 3.5 mile is where small random patches of snow hit. Then right before 4.2 boggy area, I headed into the open woods towards Rickers Knoll. My line was not direct as I just stayed in the open woods which meant heading more to my right. Lots and lots of moose prints and poop everywhere. I hit the peak and came back quickly. I think hit back on trail and after the boggy area there was more snow than before but nothing that needed spikes for. The snow shouldn't be there much longer. There was also patches of dirt in between. Before I knew it I was on the ledges and at the summit. When I came back to trail I did noticed that 2 set of Merrill prints were in the snow now. I met those two at the summit. I went and saw the new privy and headed back down. I hit the old forest road and decided to take it to see what it looked like. It was over grown but not bad yet as it is spring. After this I made sure to jump on the actual trail from the field and before I knew it I was back to the car. |
