Trail conditions were very variable today. Dry down bottom, but spikes went on at 2700’ and stayed on until 2500 on the return trip. Snowshoes stayed in the car, which worked out well. Snow was firm enough that spikes were fine, but it softened throughout the day. The ladders are super sketchy, even in spikes. On the descent, even the spikes weren’t really enough. I had one uncontrolled slide and stopped courtesy of an impact with a stump (hard enough my Garmin watch went into 911 alert mode!). Thankfully no injuries. But seriously, the ladder section is not good right now. The ladders are still 90% buried in snow. But it was a beautiful warm sunny day, and it was a pleasure to be out there! |
