Comments
Comments: My first time exploring the Kroka trails and there's some really interesting backcountry and natural features as you get further away from the facility. Grassy Brook Trail in particular feels really remote and wilderness-ish. I followed that trail all the way to what I assume is its end at a logging road; hard to be sure due to confusing markings and conflicting info on the trailhead kiosk map. At 1.7 mi. in, the white blazes stopped and the route continued ahead as a pretty vague flagged path. My guess is that this is going to be an extension of the current trail, or a new trail.

On the return trip I did a short bushwhack up to Pumpkin Hill, where, sadly, there are no pumpkins. I left Grassy Brook Trail and went up from the NE, following remnants of the ancient road that is still shown on the USGS topo. The summit is obvious and not recognized. I returned mostly the same way, but dropped off the steep E side of the summit and hit the old road further down. Bushwhack woods were tighter just a bit down low then opened up nicely.

Ground conditions on the hiking trails were mostly dry, but there was some muck and water around. But nothing atypical for spring.

The parking lot was fairly full, but I didn't see a single person all day.
