Comments
Comments: Out-and-back from Lincoln Woods today. I could bare boot till after the 2nd crossing, then Hillsounds went on. After the 4th crossing I put snowshoes on; the new snow, about 4-6”, was very soft. Took the snowshoes off just below the chimney, barebooted over Bondcliff till the scrub below Mt Bond, then put snowshoes back on till I came back to the same spot. There is a lot of soft snow between Mt Bond and the West Bond Spur. Snowshoes are the best choice here. I was the first one through here with snowshoes since the new snow on Tuesday, I was profoundly glad I had brought mine. I barebooted back over Bondcliff (mostly dry rock), and put the snowshoes back on for the descent till just before the 3rd crossing (3rd from the bottom). The snow was so water-saturated that Hillsounds would’ve been slipping way too much, especially on the side-hill.
Good day to be out! The spring snow makes you work for it!
