Sign missing at the start of Mt. Willard Trail. Mt. Willard Trail is in poor shape due to extensive erosion. One blowdown at the upper turn onto the old carriage road. The large blowdown just before the ledges that has been there all winter is still on the ground, and a herd path has formed around it. |

Over The Hill Hikers kicked off their 2022 hiking season today on Willard.
Avalon Trail and the bottom of Mt. Willard Trail were bare. Solid snow pack started shortly after the second brook crossing. Spikes or bare boots were both fine; our group put on spikes here and left them on until returning to this point. Snow depths were minimal. No significant ice encountered, and the ledges were bare.
A nice morning out with OTHH, but we didn't stay on top too long due to a stiff wind. Nice to see Ken and Sue out there as well. |
