Date of Hike: Wednesday, April 13, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Promenade Street beyond the pavement is a solid rock aggregate so there is no mud. Parking area for two vehicles at the trailhead just before the sand pit. When I arrived, there were two CAT equipment and while I was preparing for the hike a dump truck with a trailer came in and removed a CAT bulldozer.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Spring Snow
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No major crossings. Small brook near beginning of trail was easy to cross.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Pine Mountain Trail was in good condition with many recent tree cuts. I limbed and dropped an evergreen on the Ledge Trail so it's now easy to walk over. Cut limbs off a downed evergreen on Pine Mountain Loop Trail so one can duck under and stay close to the pathway. All other tree falls were easy to get by.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine for dogs
Bugs
Bugs:
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Saw one glove on a tree beside the Ledge Trail

Comments
Comments: I had never hiked to Pine Mountain. It was a fine hike for today as there was mostly snow-free terrain, so snowshoes are not necessary. There is some hard packed frozen slush/snow that could be traversed carefully in bare boots or using light traction (especially on descent). There are some small muddy spots that usually had rocks or logs to keep the boots dry.
Great views even from portions of the trail since there are no leaves on the trees. There are great views of Mt Wahington and Mt Madison from Chapel Rock (side trail) and the open slabs on the Ledges Trail. There are other side trails offering good views of the Androscoggin Valley and the Carter, Moriah, and Wildcat range. I avoided the Horton Center buildings.
Met two hikers from Exeter NH.
