Comments
Comments: I messed up and didn't bring snowshoes. There were minor snow patches down low, eventually building up to postholing depth around 2k ft. The trail is on the wrong side of the mountain and snow is still deep up high. I was postholing up to my knee and mid thigh quite a lot after 2.5k ft. I passed someone else on the trail heading up who was breaking through the crust much more than I was and also hoping to get to Shelburne Moriah. I turned around at the Kenduskeag junction because it seemed like the very old ski tracks stopped there and every step from there on out would have been a thigh deep/crotch deep posthole. On the way back, I passed the guy again who was still heading up and I wished him luck lol. That would have been an absolutely miserable hike if he ended up actually summiting Shelburne Moriah.

If it had been below freezing, I probably would have had better luck with just spikes. I guess the trail faces the wrong direction to get a lot of direct sun and didn't get a lot of traffic in the winter to be even remotely packed down. I still can't believe how much snow was left up there.

Sorry for all the postholes. Looks like I am back to my winter pack and carrying snowshoes for less popular hikes above 2k now.
